Muskoka is served by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare at two sites, Huntsville (Huntsville District Memorial Hospital) and Bracebridge (South Muskoka Memorial Hospital).
The Emergency physician groups consist of progressive Full and Part-time CCFP and CCFP(EM) physicians. We also have a great group of locum physicians who provide primarily peak season coverage.
Both Emergency Departments covered under an Alternate Funding Agreement with 25 hours a day of MD coverage. On Summer weekends and STATs MD coverage increases to 31 hours a day. Both sites also have 12 hours daily coverage by a Physician Assistant (Huntsville site) or a Physician assistant/Nurse Practitioner (Bracebridge site) to assist with lower acuity patient volumes. In addition to this regular coverage there is a 2nd On Call physician available 24/7.
Our hospitals are well supported by specialists and diagnostic services. Our local specialist support includes, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Rehab Medicine, Neurology, General Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology and Radiology. Regional call provides, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Pediatrics, OB/Gyn, ENT and Psychiatry. We also have a telemedicine unit in both EDs supporting Teletrauma (Sunnybrook and St. Mikes) and Teleburn programs to facilitate the initial management and transfer of these patients. Both Sites have a CT scanner as well as 24 hour lab and Diagnostic imaging coverage.
Both sites are affiliated with the Northern Ontario Medical School. We supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate trainees in the ED. ED physicians are encouraged to apply to serve on the faculty at the medical school. Other medical education activities including teaching Virtual Academic Rounds, research activity and other teaching are co-ordinated by local education groups at both sites.
Remuneration is a combination of hourly and fee for service billings. We receive both hourly and FFS summer incentive funding which combines for a very competitive remuneration package. In addition we provide some support for travel and accommodations for locum physicians.
We are always interested in adding physicians to our locum pool for summer and holiday coverage. We currently have limited vacancies for Part-time ED physicians.
